Three all-ins after the flop of the first hand (89T, 2 spades) was great for Tom (J7), even better for Sean (JQ) and Robert was on the flush draw with 52s. When the dust settled, Robert had missed his draw, and Sean had to share the pot with Tom when a Q turned up on the river.
It seemed a clear sign of things to come (action, drama, interest), but regulars will know that I’m prone to miscalculations, and that evaluation was another example.
So, what can I tell you about a largely nondescript game, where there were merely brief frissons of drama? Well first up, obviously I didn’t win. I’m no Germanophobe, but my excuse this week is No Hans! (see also, Dumbcall Dummkopf).
The result was a virtual copy of the final game of last year, whereby the heads-up was fought between the Shark Finn and Shorn the Sheep (to the slaughter). It was a lot closer than that sounds, but the net result was that Janne took his first win of 2025, whilst Sean edged into 4th in the league.
Earlier in the proceedings, Tom had caught crabs and saw them turn into quad threes, but then his stack dwindled and he got taken out in 3rd by Janne’s QQ. If it happens again, I’m going to call Tom „Bubble-T.”
A3c with both a flush draw and a straight draw may seem like a good time to call, but Janne’s Kings crushed the glory that existed entirely in my imagination.
Janne also took Robert out when the latter pushed all-in with 78. Janne wouldn’t usually call with 95d but Robert’s stack was little more than a drop in the ocean that the Shark was swimming in. It was a clear case of overkill („Jaws” anyone?) as Janne made a flush.
Robert (KK) had earlier KO’d Jake (99), whilst last place was determined by Sean (A2) defying his domination (by A9) when he hit 2 pairs. It was a little bit cruel to Rusty, but:
A) that’s poker
B) that’s hilarious
C) that’s all for now, folks
I don’t mean to be mean, and at the time I wasn’t even laughing. But Rusty accidentally let slip that he didn’t want any mention of his 7th out of 7 finish. Well… inspiration achieved.
Nobody should call Rusty a loser. Instead, we should rejoice that finally Rusty has shown his sensitive side. It clearly bothers him — which of course means it must be mentioned here!
Don’t worry, Rusty, being first to finish happens to us all. Good guys come last, right?
