Hi, I know this report is late, but as a wise man once said, I’ll apologise for being late when I’m dead. Better late than ever, said Miss Prince, the dyslexic.
No more waffle, I promise. I’m in a sugar rush.
We made a small change this week to encourage more involvement, and were rewarded with 11 players, all searching for glory and bragging rights. It wasn’t quite a full house, but we did need two tables. Two tables chasing down a whole bunch of points. With so many of the regulars in close proximity to each other in the league, everyone seemed even more determined than usual.
On the table I played, there was an initial flurry of completely over the top moves (aka BS), which were quickly smacked down by those who held genuine starting hands. I wasn’t the only culprit, but I did remember that patience would be required in the long run and had another beer to replenish my tears. Obviously I was hoping that later they’d be tears of joy, but it wasn’t to be (see „patience” above. Knowing you need it, and having it, are not the same).
So here’s how it went down, although since the outcomes are in ascending order, it could also (theoretically) be how it went up. I’m in a waffle balloon now, sorry.
Zack was unfortunate to be out-kicked (as well as kicked out) in 11th by Ug, followed swiftly by Sinead in 10th when Rusty hit a higher pair. Sean had A-Queen, but poker is clearly homophobic because he was beaten into 9th bi Maya’s straight. I suffered a similar fate (accompli) with my own ace hole card when Tom also proclaimed his straight, leaving me 8th – and the door open for a change at the top of the table.
Tom wasn’t happy for long though, going all-in with pocket TT, but Maya called and hit with AQ to end his hopes. Further woe befell Rusty (essentially blinded out), Robert whose 9s lost to Hadley’s tens, and Ug, whose all-in (JKoff) on a flop of AA2 couldn’t scare Hadley away (pocket 9s).
So the points were to be divided by 3 players. Jake was third when he hit his king, but as usual, it was 4K hell as Hadley had KQ. A very good game was settled between the two ladies in the heads-up when Maya hit 2 pairs, but Hadley was the star of the show on Broadway as her big slick made the winning straight.
In the end, the top of the league was unchanged, but now there are even more contenders joining the fray.
